Displaced

Even autumn can smirk its way into the hush of Florida winter.

Where else can the pompous sun romance the quick chill in February?

No one minds, somehow, that fall has rushed into the image.

Its warm whispers redeem the sense of disorientation.

And even though the cold brings lovers and friends under blankets,

the haze of autumn stirs curiosity.

It caresses its way from gut to lip and drugs the clutched muscles.

The mind allows a daze to cloud over the eyes,

and we forget…for a while what season it is.

We’re caught in the joke.
